He Gave
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life.” (John 3:16). “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” (John 1:14).
For God so loved the world, He gave – He gave His Son in the flesh. He gave us the most precious and incredible gift of all time. He gave us a gift only He could give. He gave Jesus Christ to us not because we deserved it, He gave Him to us because He loved us, wishing that none of us would perish (2 Peter 3:9). He gave Him to us because we have a desperate need for Him. And He did this just as He foretold through the prophets, so we would recognize His Son.
“Therefore the LORD Himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a Son, and will call Him Immanuel.” (Isaiah 7:14).
“For to us a child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Isaiah 9:6).
I pray that today’s devotional finds you safely and happily among your family and loved ones. For those of you who are not able to be with loved ones due to travel or job issues, death, military service, family discord, or any other reason, I will pray for you today.
Jesus is God’s precious gift to us and we celebrate His birth today. Today is a day to spend with family and friends celebrating this magnificent, undeserved gift. We may not love our circumstances, but we know He loves us because of what He did 2000 years ago on this Christmas morning when the Christ child was born.
I recommend you take some time to read the passages from the books of Matthew and Luke that chronicle the birth of our Savior. After that, put aside any strife between family members the way God put aside His anger towards men. There is Peace on Earth between God and man (Luke 2:14), may there be Peace on Earth among men as well. Merry Christmas!
