The Right Attorney

The public trials of high-profile murder cases garner incessant media coverage. Trials such as those of Jon Benet Ramsey, O.J Simpson, Michael Jackson, George Zimmerman, and Jodie Arias serve as examples. One poignant lesson – it is imperative to select the right attorney. Your choice of legal counsel influences your future – whether you enjoy post-trial freedom or whether you spend your life in jail. The objective is to hire an influential attorney to persuade the judge and the jury you are worthy of your freedom.

Selecting an attorney to represent you before The Judge who decides your eternity is an even more important decision than choosing an attorney for an Earthly trial. Harsh punishments, up to death, can be administered here on Earth. Being sentenced to live in eternal darkness away from the Father and Creator, however, is the ultimate punishment. Earthly torment pales in comparison to the eternal suffering that accompanies rejection from Heaven.

Jesus Christ will judge every one of us, and the evidence is unequivocal – we are guilty of sin (Romans 3:23, 1 John 1:8). This makes the verdict certain –death, an eternal death without hope unless we receive a pardon. Our attorney can’t spin circumstantial evidence to deflect questions regarding our guilt. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, we deserve death (Romans 6:23). The only hope we have is to admit our sin and to select an attorney who can influence The Judge in our favor.

Jesus Christ is the one mediator between God and men (1 Timothy 2:5). We are all guilty in God’s eyes, and Jesus is the only One who can argue successfully for your admission into Heaven, despite your life of sin. He is the only One who can clothe you in garments of righteousness to block the stains and blackness of sin from the eyes of the pure and Holy Father.

When a judge on Earth calls attorneys into his chambers for a consultation, attorneys for both sides attend. Not so in Heaven. If you have not chosen Jesus Christ as your attorney, your current attorney, the devil, will be excluded from the meeting with God. Under these circumstances, a verdict of damnation is assured. A person without representation has no hope. Moreover, even if Satan were present, God always sides with His Son. Case closed.

Conversely, The Good News of the Gospel is if you choose Jesus Christ as your attorney, He will represent you by Himself to the ultimate Judge of your soul. Jesus has been given the power and authority to represent you and to win His case every time. He has a perfect record in getting souls into Heaven (John 10:28-29), as long as those souls committed to Him while they were here on Earth.

Have you committed to your Heavenly attorney? If not, He cannot represent you before The Judge. He is committed to you while you are on Earth, but will reject you if you fail to accept Him during your lifetime. He longs desperately for your commitment, but He has given you the free will to accept His counsel or not. Failure to choose leaves you unrepresented before The Judge because the public defender assigned to you will be excluded from the hearing and is not credible. Thus, the public defender’s record is also perfect – he has never won a case, nor will he ever do so.

Choosing the right attorney for the judgment of your soul is the most important decision you will ever make. I recommend highly that you make a normal decision. Let me reiterate that you have already been assigned a default attorney to handle your case before God. If you have not committed to Jesus Christ, you have committed to having the public defender represent you. If so, there is no doubt as to where you will spend your eternity, and it will be bleak.

It is normal to want to be in Heaven, but there is only one way to get there. Don’t take any chances. Commit today to a relationship with the ultimate attorney in the Universe. He has never failed and cannot fail before God the Father, for He sits at His right hand.
