“To promote Godly living in a culture committed to destroying it”
Wednesday, May 18, 2016
On September 3, 2012, Sun Myung Moon, leader and founder of the so-called Unification Church, died at age 92. Claiming five to seven million members worldwide, ex-followers indicate the actual number was around 100,000, a substantial group of souls. The “church” he led was actually a cult, with Mr. Moon at the head of the organization, claiming falsely to be a messiah sent to “finish the work of Jesus Christ”, which Scripture assures us is finished (John 19:30). As a diversion from the duties and pressures of being a “messiah”, he also became a media mogul and was convicted of income tax fraud, serving time in a U.S. federal prison. Even if Jesus had left unfinished work, His Holiness would have forbidden such criminal activity.
Moon’s family followed traditional Confucianist beliefs, but when he was ten years old, he and his family converted to Christianity and joined the Presbyterian church. He appears to have known Jesus Christ the way I know Abraham Lincoln – as a historical figure, but not through a personal relationship with Christ. In fact, Sun Myung Moon seems to have much the same relationship with Jesus Christ as Satan does – they both believe in Him, but have both tried to steal His power and authority. They are both enemies of God. For these reasons I believe Sun Myung Moon is down in Hell today.
Scripture tells us, “If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. Anyone who rejected the Law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Hebrews 10:26-29, 31).
The sin described by the writer of Hebrews is total and final apostasy, where men willfully and completely resolved to despise the Spirit, the only sanctifier, along with the Gospel, our only hope of salvation. These men have rejected the words of eternal life and all this after they have known, owned, and professed, the Christian religion, yet continue to do so obstinately and maliciously. This is the great transgression. Scripture tells us clearly how Satan is doomed because of his rebellion. Only God knows the state of what was in Sun Myung Moon’s heart during his life, but appearances do not paint a promising picture for his eternity.
The doom of apostates is dreadful. No other sacrifice exists for such sins and no other Christ will come to save such sinners. By sinning against Christ, they have sinned against their last resort and remedy. There remains for them only a certain and fearful judgment (Revelation 19:20, 20:15). Utter destruction awaits all obstinate apostates at their death and judgment; at this time the Judge will discover a fiery indignation against them. They will be consigned to the devouring fire and to everlasting burnings.
To trample upon an ordinary person shows intolerable insolence. To treat a person of honor in that vile manner is insufferable, but to deal this way with the Son of God, who Himself is God, must be the highest provocation. To trample upon His person and His sacrifice, denying Him to be the Messiah, to trample upon His authority, and undermine His kingdom—what punishment can be too great for such men?
It is not normal to attempt to steal the Messiahship from Jesus Christ. He has been ordained since the beginning as our God, Savior, eternal Priest, and Judge. An Earthly judge would “throw the book” at anyone who attempted to usurp his authority. One can only imagine, and shudder, what our Judge Jesus Christ would do to anyone who attempted to steal His position.
It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the Living God. Out of Christian charity, I hope Sun Myung Moon did not cross the line of no return, but I fear the worst. The die is cast, and the Son may have cast Sun down. Only God knows the answer.
In His love and service,
A servant of Jesus Christ
