…Full Circle Refuge Champions Mission Report
My name is Connie Solomon, I am a follower of Jesus Christ and I have been a volunteer with Full Circle Refuge for about 10 years now. I just wanted to encourage all of the friends and supporters this month that God has never taken His eyes off those we minister to, those who are doing the ministry and those who are supporting us.
I remember quite a few years back in a video presentation for FCR where I loosely paraphrased I believe Isaiah 58:9-12 with something like this “If we are about God’s business then He will “rebuild ancient ruins and allow us to raise up the foundations of many generations; and we will be called the repairer of the breach, the restorer of streets to dwell in.”
Take heart God is doing just that through our prayers and hard work in the community. Where there are families that have been breached –He is sending in men and women to build up those relationships so they represent Him well.
What Full Circle Refuge has been doing at Lighthouse over the years is just that sort of ministry- building up the trust in those students so that they will begin to trust in the hope of Jesus Christ-that He can make all things new. They have many walls and challenges in their lives but when they hear the gospel of Jesus Christ presented week after week while they are trying to work on their shortcomings it is a breath of fresh air to them. I love bringing in Christian music because music has an international language of its own and when coupled with encouraging words of Truth it can calm the beast in all of us.
There are so many stories of faith I could share of what I have seen or heard in my time spent at Lighthouse Care Center but not one of them stands out from the rest. It is an awesome thing to see God do His work in the lives of the students, their families, the staff and our volunteers.
I do have a story to tell you about the faith that God has put in my heart. In the last year I had to fill out some paperwork for the Lighthouse and that document listed Lighthouse as a Mental Health Facility. That challenged me up for a long time-it shocked me that I had never called it that and so it some sort of spiritual way it wasn’t that. –it was the Lighthouse. A safe place for wayward ships. But as I thought on that description Mental Health Facility I began to feel something else set in-I was more forgiving of myself when I didn’t fully commit to being prepared one Sunday or excused myself because I didn’t really try to engage someone that was acting in a stereotype way. That sounds sharp as I write it here-but I see the enemy more fully having stumbled along trying to understand the change in my heart. It is that kind of status quo- world thinking that calls us to all our facilities as light bearers or image bearers. We are called to break through the confusion of the enemy. We are seekers of excellence combating the status quo and being led in the Resistance by the God of Angel armies. Yep sorry if you are flinching here- when you see the change in young hearts –you see the power of the God of the universe changing worlds -one heart at a time.
We are changing things up this summer at the Lighthouse. This summer we will take our first group of young men at this facility through the Promise Recovery material from Straight Ahead.
Through the year we also provide Week-day Bible Discussions and Sunday Chapel. No experience required just a willing, loving heart changed by God for His pleasure and purpose-training is provided. If you are interested in volunteering at Lighthouse please email me at [email protected] and I will let you know the opportunities to go and the details of upcoming training.
