Masterpiece of Creation
What do you need to create a masterpiece? Some people say it takes creative genius; others say it takes years of dedication, hard work, and perseverance. In contrast, Christians are able to provide a precise formula for creating a masterpiece using only common elements: 97.5 pounds of oxygen, 27 pounds of carbon, 15 pounds of hydrogen, 4.5 pounds of nitrogen, a couple of pounds of calcium and phosphorous, and a pinch of iron, potassium, sulfur, chlorine, and sodium. Put all these items together and, Voila! – You have a 150 pound human being, a masterpiece of creation.
This do-it-yourself kit for creating a human being has an obvious problem – it doesn’t come with a set of instructions. You can buy these items easily – and cheaply – but how do you assemble it? The human body is so complex that no scientist, medical doctor, or engineer can put it together from scratch, much less comprehend more than a fraction of its composition and function. Even evolutionist Charles Darwin admitted it seemed absurd “in the highest degree” that the eye could have been formed by natural selection. Yet evolutionists today want us to believe the eye and all other complex and interdependent organs in the body were the result of random selection.
In the movie “Oh God!”, George Burns, who portrays God, is asked about miracles. He responds, “Try making a mackerel from scratch. That’s a miracle!” How much more so our human bodies in which God imparted a soul and spirit, unique among His creatures. Not coincidentally, soul and spirit are not on the list of ingredients for a human. Only God can give these special gifts.
God tells us He formed us in the womb (Psalm 139:13, Jeremiah 1:5). With Adam, “The LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.” (Genesis 2:7). The word “formed” is used in the sense a potter uses clay and implies God became directly involved in the shaping and fashioning of man’s physical frame.
The Psalmist tells us “..I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:14). However, it is God who tells us that we are His masterpiece of Creation. “And God said, ‘Let us make man in Our image, in Our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the Earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” (Genesis 1:26). God made man more special than other creatures.
God then crowned Adam with posterity, position, and possession. He gave Adam a paradise to enjoy, pure and pristine. All the fruit of the world was his possession. In Genesis 1:28, God said, “..Be fruitful and multiply.” The whole human race sprang out of Adam and Eve. Adam is the head of the human race. Even with the setback of sin, man has exercised dominion as a mover of mountains, builder of dams, digger of mines, and conqueror of planets.
Despite all of God’s gifts to Adam and his descendants, God’s gift of soul and spirit was the crowning glory of His masterpiece. What other animal can accumulate achievements from one generation to another? What animal can experience a true sense of guilt from wrong doing, or develop a conscience of judgment to come? What animal shows a desire to worship? What animal has any hope of immortality beyond the grave? What animal can exercise moral judgment? What animal can show appreciation for beauty? Have you ever seen a dog admire a glorious sunset or a cow stand breathless over a lush, flowery landscape?
It was normal for God to give man the best of everything on Earth. Physically, mentally, and spiritually, man is the masterpiece of Creation. Man alone has the capacity to know the mind and will of the Holy God. Evolutionists would have us believe man is just a more highly-evolved animal – how degrading! Man is in no way related to animals. God said it is so (Genesis 1:26). Thank Him today for caring enough to make you one of His masterpieces.
In His love and service,
Jeff Myers
